Successful IVS Open House Demonstrates Innovations
December 18, 2015: Roughly fifty people from across the laboratory attended the grand opening of the GSS Immersive Visualization Studio (IVS) the morning of Friday, December 18, 2015. The attendees enjoyed brief overviews of, demonstrations of, and user experiences with the IVS visualization tools.
The IVS, which was created by the Global Security Sciences (GSS) Division’s Systems Science Center, offers Argonne personnel a unique opportunity to enhance research their through the use of innovative visualization techniques. The IVS is a state-of-the art workspace for developing, exploring and using emerging immersive and collaborative technologies for a variety of applications.The IVS is an open resource available to all Argonne researchers.
The studio features three Oculus Rift DK2 immersive visualization headsets supported by virtual reality workstations. In addition, a Steelcase media:scape team collaboration system and a visual collaboration area are available in the studio. These brand new systems are designed to be both cutting edge and affordable, offering the opportunity to explore the near-term future of analytical workplaces.
